Venezuela converts airport taxes into cryptocurrency to escape sanctions

According to Coindesk, Venezuelan President Maduro and his government appear to be using tax and cryptocurrencies to bypass economic sanctions. They use digital wallet applications to convert domestic airport taxes into bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and then transfer to Hungary and Russia. At the exchanges, the funds were converted at the exchange and transferred back to Venezuela. Spanish media ABC reported that the relevant taxes are mainly from the Miami International Airport (IAIM) near Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and Nicholas Maduro may be seeking to extend the program to other airports across the country.
