According to CoinDesk, on August 2, the threat intelligence report released by FireEye showed that Chinese hacker organization APT41 attacked the encryption company. In addition to attacks on healthcare, telecommunications, financial technology, and film and media companies, there is evidence that APT41 has penetrated and recruited companies in the encryption industry. In June 2018, the APT41 sent a spear-type phishing email, prompting its goal to join a decentralized gaming platform denominated in cryptocurrency. In the same month, an encrypted exchange was locked by the same email address, reportedly operated by Tom Giardino. In addition, in at least one case, the hacker organization deployed malicious code to upload the Monero mining robot to the target computer, which is evolving into a common form of online extortion.
