West African country Sierra Leone launches national digital identity platform based on blockchain

On August 21st, Sierra Leone, a West African country, launched a national digital identity platform that uses blockchain technology to provide its citizens with official identity, control of their credit information, and access to digital financial services. The platform runs on the Kiva protocol, a digital identification system that uses distributed ledger technology to address two major barriers to accessing financial services: lack of formal identification and lack of verifiable credit history.
