The encryption platform BitMEX was attacked for misleading advertising, and the UK Advertising Standards Authority prohibited it from publishing again.

On September 16th, BitMEX, a crypto-derivative trading platform, posted misleading ads in a major UK newspaper, showing an exaggerated return on investment in Bitcoin. The Consumer Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the consumer watchdog, ordered the exchange not to post the advertisement again, and to ensure that future financial statements are listed in an easy-to-understand manner and clearly state the investment risk. Prior to this, four complaints questioned the return on the bitcoin investment shown in the ad, and two other allegations that BitMEX failed to adequately explain the investment risk. ASA supported these complaints after the investigation.
