CME Group: Bitcoin open interest increased by 61% compared with the same period last year

CME Group said its bitcoin futures contract became more popular in the last quarter, with the number of open positions increasing by 61% from the same period last year due to increased demand from institutional investors. CME Group said in a statement on Monday that the number of open positions rose from 2,873 in the third quarter of 2018 to 4,629 contracts. The average daily contract volume for the quarter was 5,534, an increase of 10% over the same period last year.
