French Finance Minister: The central bank’s digital currency should be developed in the medium to long term to respond to the Libra threat

According to Coindesk, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire had previously stated that Libra should not develop in the EU because it threatens the monetary sovereignty of member states. He later reiterated this point on Twitter, saying that neither politics nor sovereignty can be shared with private interests. The country’s monetary sovereignty is freely supported by the choice of its citizens. In response to Libra's threat, he also called for the development of “innovative national and cross-border payment methods” while developing the central bank's digital currency in the medium to long term.
