Indian college students develop blockchain-based voting systems and win hackathon awards

According to recent media reports from Indian media, three computer students at Indian University's Malla Reddy Engineering College for Women have developed a blockchain-based "smart voting system" where voters can vote at online polling stations. The above system won the most outstanding creative award from HCCI's 24-hour hackathon Hexathon. One of the winners, Shivani, said that the system was developed to eliminate the inconvenience of voting in rural areas, and that voting in village polling stations always has to line up. The system has been tested in some closed communities and is said to demonstrate a high degree of security and tamper resistance.
