Analysis: Waste pollution caused by PoW token mining or the rise of PoS tokens

On April 18th, LongHash sent an analysis saying that energy waste and environmental pollution caused by PoW cryptocurrency mining may lead to the rise of PoS tokens. The analysis suggests that if the industry is focused on technologies that do not consume a lot of power, cryptocurrencies are more likely to go mainstream. According to the International Energy Agency's 2016 data, cryptocurrency mining consumes energy equivalent to the energy consumption levels of Greece, Israel, Chile, and the Czech Republic. In addition, the cryptocurrency mining industry conservatively estimates that the annual carbon dioxide emissions generated will exceed the carbon dioxide emissions of more than 300,000 flights from New York to Los Angeles.
