PayPal is granted a patent to prevent crypto-ransom

According to Coindesk, online payment giant PayPal has obtained a technology patent that detects certain types of encrypted malware and mitigates its effects. The patent was first filed in September 2016 and was approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on Tuesday. The patent outlines how to leverage existing system data caches to help detect ransomware and prevent it from irreparably locking victim files. Last year, the company also filed a patent application to increase the speed of cryptocurrency payments, thereby reducing the time it takes to make payments between consumers and businesses.
