According to the Bitcoin Exchange Guide, the latest report from Coveware, a solution for ransomware, shows that ransomware attackers received cryptocurrencies in the first quarter of 2019 by nearly 90% from the previous quarter. In the first quarter of this year, the average daily ransom paid to attackers rose from $6,733 in the fourth quarter of 2018 to $12,762. Bitcoin is still the most mainstream payment method for ransomware, and 98% of attacks require payment using Bitcoin. According to the report, the financial costs associated with ransomware attacks far exceed the cost of data recovery. The average time spent on attacks is 7.3 working days, and the estimated additional cost due to downtime is $64,645.
