Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Bank of Thailand plan to release digital currency project report by Q1 2020

According to local news media EJ Insight, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced in a forum on Wednesday that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Bank of Thailand plan to release a joint research report on the central bank's digital currency by the first quarter of 2020. It is reported that in May this year, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Bank of Thailand (BoT) reached a cooperation to study the benefits and risks of the introduction of the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The two sides studied a large-scale CBDC through their respective projects LionRock and Inthanon, and have been exploring how to use large-scale CBDC to promote PvP settlement between Hong Kong and Thai banks.
