Mexican oil company Pemex suffered a cyber attack and hackers demanded to pay $5 million worth of bitcoin

According to Reuters, Pemex said it had discovered a hacking incident on Sunday, according to five employees of the Mexican oil company Pemex and internal mail, which forced the company to shut down computers across Mexico and freeze payments and other systems. The ransom appearing on the Pemex computer points to the dark network associated with "DoppelPaymer" (a ransomware). The site requires Pemex to pay 565 bitcoins (worth $5 million) within 48 hours. The hacker claims that Pemex did not pay the ransom immediately after the first cyberattack, but Pemex still has time to meet its bitcoin demand and will not comment further until the new deadline expires.
