Research: Bitcoin mining actually produces only one-third of the assumed carbon emissions

According to Decrypt, researchers at Aalborg University in Denmark say that the carbon emissions from bitcoin mining are not as terrible as we all imagine. Many previous studies on the environmental impact of Bitcoin have made “blank assumptions” about the carbon emissions from mining, but few of these studies have attempted to produce accurate data. Based on these assumptions, bitcoin mining produces up to 63 megatons of carbon per year, but the actual figure is about 17.29 megatons per year, less than one-third of the assumed data.
