Bank of Korea: No plans to issue central bank digital currency (CBDC)

The Bank of Korea said it has no plans to issue government-controlled digital currencies or central bank digital currency (CBDC).
The central bank’s official responsible for digital payment research said: “Since Libra is not online, we need to keep close communication with other countries’ counterparts on how to deal with this issue. But our position is that the central bank should not rush to issue public digital currency. We believe that Most Koreans do not find it difficult to trade using current payment methods. In this case, we don't have to rush to catch up with the latest trends, and their safety and stability have not been confirmed."
