Ethereum developers: if maintenance issues cannot be resolved, they threaten the Eth1.0 network

Earlier this year, during the Ethereum Devcon Conference in Osaka, Japan, the ETH Working Group initiated a research effort to migrate Eth1.0 to the Eth2.0 execution environment. Ethereum developer Piper Merriam recently published an article describing the progress made since the conference and what might be possible if certain maintenance issues (such as increased state inflation, increased synchronization time, and decreased penetration of running full nodes) Obstacles encountered. Merriam claims that these maintenance issues threaten the Eth1.0 network.
