Coinbase closes Chicago office and lays off 30 people

Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange, closed its Chicago office a year ago and cut 30 jobs. Coinbase's Chicago division, called Coinbase Markets, is dedicated to creating complex electronic market technologies such as high-frequency trading of matching engines and cryptocurrencies. Coinbase said the company made a tough decision to merge Chicago's ongoing matching engine work with a similar work being done by the San Francisco team, and would consider moving a few former Chicago office employees to San Francisco.
