Singapore police remind citizens to watch out for fraud evading investigations via Bitcoin ATM

Scammers are turning to Bitcoin ATMs to deceive victims and avoid being detected by police. Police in Singapore's Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) have prevented at least two victims from buying bitcoin under the direction of scammers in various cases.
Ho Cher Hin, an inspector in charge of the Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the Central Police Force, said that the increasing use of Bitcoin ATMs is an example of scammers' ways of avoiding detection and disrupting their criminal activities. Cases include job search scams, online dating scams, and impersonation scams. "To prevent others from losing money in these scams, officials at NPC in Bukit Merah East have been in contact with users of Bitcoin ATM to prevent such transactions."
