Cryptocurrency ransomware attack hits a school district in Michigan

The Richmond Community school district in Michigan was hit by a cryptocurrency “ransomware” attack. Hackers took control of the school district ’s computer systems and demanded a $ 10,000 Bitcoin ransom. District officials said the school district had closed three schools to resolve the issue, and officials also emphasized that student and staff information had not been leaked. The school district's Brian Walmsley claimed that they would not pay the ransom because "there is no guarantee that it will be retrieved (server files)."
