The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Bitcoin (BTC) derivatives transaction appears to have reached record levels this month, with transaction volumes soaring and open interest already hovering near historical highs. According to CME Group data, as of January 16, there were a total of 5,328 open CME futures contracts, or 26,640 bitcoins (approximately $ 237 million). This number is higher than any monthly closing price of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange since its launch in December 2017. As of now, 5,252 contracts in July 2019 are at an all-time high. According to the latest data released by the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on January 7, the number of open positions did exceed the current level at the beginning of January, reaching approximately 5,400.
