Japan Liberal Democratic Party MP proposes digital currency issuance in Japan

According to Reuters, a group of 70 members of the Japanese ruling party, the Liberal Democratic Party, is studying a proposal that plans for Japan to issue its own digital currency. Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister Kiyoshi Nakayama told Reuters that the digital currency plan could be a joint initiative between the government and private companies that would adapt Japan to changes in global financial technology. Representative Nakayama, a key member of the group, said the first step is to study the issuance of digital yen.
