Belgian town municipal server hacked for Bitcoin ransom

The server of a nursing home in the municipality of the Belgian town of Willebroek was found hacked on Saturday and the damage is currently being investigated. Hackers demanded a ransom payment in Bitcoin, and Mayor Willebroek emphasized that Willebroek had absolutely no intention to pay the ransom requested by the hacker. The attack was the second time Flanders had been attacked in a short time. Willebroek was hacked nearly two weeks after the IT system of loom manufacturer Picanol was compromised by ransomware.
