Data show: Bitcoin mining energy consumption hits record high

LongHash released an analysis article today saying that according to estimates such as the Digiconomist Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index and Cambridge Bitcoin Power Consumption Index, Bitcoin and New Zealand have roughly the same carbon footprint. Although the figures for Digiconomist and Cambridge are inconsistent in terms of exact numbers, both believe that Bitcoin now consumes more energy than at any time in history, surpassing a record high set last summer. In terms of electricity consumption, if the Digiconomist estimates that the electricity consumption of the Bitcoin network is equivalent to the electricity consumption of Chile or Colombia; if it is estimated by the Cambridge study, the electricity consumption of the Bitcoin network is equivalent to the electricity consumption of the Philippines or Finland Battery.
