Security personnel spot Bitcoin ransomware scam targeting Google AdSense service site

Cyber security personnel recently discovered a ransomware scam targeting Google's AdSense service site, where hackers demanded a ransom in bitcoin to prevent attacks on AdSense. The attack allegedly caused the AdSense account of the target user to be suspended or disabled. Security investigation and news blog KrebsOnSecurity first reported this malicious email-based attack on February 17. Blackmailers demanded a $ 5,000 BTC ransom to stop the attack.

Website owners who share this information with KrebsOnSecurity say that there has been a significant increase in invalid traffic in their AdSense statistics. Google described the behavior as a typical threat of vandalism, with extortionists attempting to trigger law enforcement actions against publishers by sending invalid traffic to their ads.
