New York Police Department: Beware of bitcoin fraudsters pretending to be government officials, has stolen more than $2 million

The New York Police Department (NYPD) reminded the public to be wary of impersonating US Social Security officials and demanding phone fraud with bitcoin payments. The New York Police Department said that such fraud cases are increasing. So far this year, the New York Police Department has received more than 200 complaints, totaling more than $2 million. In 2018, the New York Police Department received only three similar complaints.
