Russia tries to block Internet technologies including Telegram's open network

A Russian government agency has asked contractors to bid to find ways to block unreviewable network technologies, such as mesh networks, including blockchains not yet launched by instant messaging company Telegram. The tender announcement was issued by the General Radio Frequency Center on March 3, which is responsible for controlling Russia's radio frequency use. The list of technologies in this document includes mesh networks, Internet of Things (IoT) protocols, and protocols that allow anonymous browsing, including Invisible Internet Project (I2P), The Onion Router (TOR), Freenet, Zeronet, anoNet, and Telegram Open Network (TON ). The agency said the technologies were "used to create an anonymous dark web." Bitcoin and no other cryptocurrencies were mentioned.
