Malta awards blockchain scholarship and will issue the first blockchain company license during the year

The Maltese government has awarded 19 student blockchain scholarships for a total value of 160,000 euros ($179,000). The scholarship was awarded by Silvio Schembri, Secretary of the Digital Economy and Innovation Council, using a $351,000 scholarship established by the Malta Digital Innovation Agency (MITA) and the University of Malta in August 2018. In addition, Schembri also said that the Malta Financial Services Authority will issue the first batch of licenses to blockchain companies this year. He pointed out that as of the end of 2018, the number of blockchain companies operating from Malta reached 800.
