Recently, before Craig Wright, the Bitcoin trademark was registered by the Escobar family. According to the official documents of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Roberto Escobar, the younger brother of the late Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, was the main signatory of the naming rights of Bitcoin. US Trademark Office document 88055293 shows that the ownership of the Bitcoin trademark was previously registered by the British registered company Coin Legal Ltd. Coin Legal's initial application for Bitcoin naming rights was signed by the company's founder Roberto de Jesús Escobar Gaviria. According to the British company database Companies House, Coin Legal Ltd was founded in June 2018 and is led by Olof Kyros Gustafsson. According to its Twitter profile, Olof Gustafsson is the CEO of Escobar Inc. The Bitcoin trademark application was filed in July 2018, only one month after Coin Legal Ltd registered with the British business organization. When Ownen Cong filed his trademark application, Roberto Escobar's company had controlled the name of Bitcoin for only four months. At the time of O'Ben Cong's application, Coin Legal had a six-month period to challenge his claim, but the company did not respond.
