US medical startups propose to use blockchain technology to track the flow of prescription drugs

EirSystems, a medical startup in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has proposed blockchain technology to track the flow of prescription drugs. Most opioid crisis is caused by the abuse of prescription painkillers. Often, prescription drugs will eventually be resold on the black market, further contributing to dependence. Using a blockchain-based medical system, doctors and pharmacists can more easily track opioid analgesics, document their use, and how much to use at a time. The initial implementation is expected to be launched in small US towns most vulnerable to the opioid crisis, and they will first launch blockchain-based healthcare systems in hospitals in Ohio and small towns in Tennessee.
