Iran’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology calls for formalization of Iran’s bitcoin mining operations

Iran’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, stressed the potential of cryptocurrency mining, and he has called for the formalization of Iran’s operations, given recent reports that bitcoin miners are using cheap energy from Iran. Azari Jahromi said plans are under way to allocate cryptocurrencies to special locations near power plants. “Such a location reduces the cost of electricity transportation,” he added, adding that miners should pay higher prices for electricity because of their high income. He then called for the regulation of operators active in cryptocurrency mining and added that the government should issue legal certificates for them.
