The team behind Inferno Drainer stated in a Telegram post on November 26th, “It’s time for us to move forward.” They mentioned that the files and infrastructure necessary to run the wallet scamming program will not be destroyed but will remain active so users can transition smoothly to other services.
“We’ve been on a long journey with all of you, and we sincerely thank you. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever.”
“A big thank you to everyone who has worked with us,” they said. “We hope you remember us as the best tool ever and that we successfully helped you make money.”
The Inferno Drainer team also mentioned that they have deleted the affiliate Telegram account “mr_inferno_drainer” used to organize their services and warned users not to trust any other Drainer using their name in the future.
An Abundance of Wallet Phishing Tools
Inferno Drainer gained attention in early 2023 and saw more usage after the popular Monkey Drainer tool shut down. Like similar companies, Inferno also offered scam software for crypto wallets and took a 20% commission from items stolen from users.
According to the analysis by Web3 anti-scam platform Scam Sniffer, Inferno Drainer has stolen nearly $70 million from over 100,000 victims since February. However, the Inferno Drainer team claims that the stolen amount exceeds $80 million.
CertiK, a blockchain security company, stated that Inferno Drainer is “one of the most destructive phishing toolkits we have seen against the community.”
CertiK also mentioned that there are still “a significant number of vendors” active, including competitors like Pink Drainer and Angel Drainer. The latter released an update on November 25th to facilitate wallet phishing on more blockchains.
Monkey Drainer is another notorious cryptocurrency phishing tool that stole millions of dollars and closed down in March, stating that it was time to move on to better things.
