Based on their performance on social media, a series of influential and controversial figures have made the latest top ten list of popular cryptocurrency entrepreneurs, with Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) ranking first, and convicted fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried ranking tenth.
The top ten list was compiled by CoinLedger after shortlisting the top 30 most influential individuals in the cryptocurrency field for 2023 in CryptoWeekly, and combining their respective social media followings to determine the most watched cryptocurrency personalities globally.
Sitting at the cool kids’ table alongside CZ are Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Twitter co-founder and Block CEO Jack Dorsey, ranking second and third respectively. According to CoinLedger’s research, CZ became the most popular figure in the cryptocurrency world, with a combined total of nearly 9.1 million followers on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram.

Buterin and Dorsey closely follow CZ, with a combined total of 7.7 million and 6.4 million followers on Twitter and Instagram respectively.

MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor and ARK Invest founder and CEO Cathie Wood rank fourth and fifth respectively. Saylor has approximately half the number of followers as Dorsey, with nearly 3.25 million, while Wood has slightly over 1.6 million followers.
Venture capitalists Chamath LianGuailihapitiya and Marc Andreessen have 1.6 million and 1.3 million followers respectively, ranking sixth and seventh. Cryptocurrency Group CEO Barry Silbert and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong rank second with 1.25 million and 1.2 million followers respectively.
The tenth spot on the list is Sam Bankman-Fried “SBF”, the founder and former CEO of defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX. Even a year after FTX’s collapse, SBF still has 1.06 million followers on X and Instagram.

According to data from Socialblade, during the time of FTX’s collapse, SBF’s total number of followers increased from approximately 780,000 to over 1.1 million, and has since remained stable at the million mark.
