Microsoft’s recent acquisition of video game publisher Activision has left us wondering about the future of crypto and the metaverse in their products and operations. When the deal was announced back in January 2022, Microsoft was all about the metaverse, claiming it would accelerate growth and be a building block for the metaverse. But hold on a minute, folks! Fast forward to October 13 when the acquisition was completed, and Microsoft Gaming conveniently forgot to mention the metaverse in their statement. Talk about selective memory!

In an interview with Bloomberg in August, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer wasn’t exactly singing praises for the metaverse either. He was like, “Hey, gamers have been living in the metaverse for ages!” When you’re lost in World of Warcraft or racing against others in Roblox, you’re already in a shared world. So, what’s the big deal with building a poorly designed video game metaverse that looks like an office space? Phil ain’t got time for that!

But wait, there’s more! In a surprising twist, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spilled the beans back in February 2022. He revealed that meetings and gaming were the main focus of Microsoft’s metaverse plans. So, while we scratch our heads trying to figure out what Microsoft really wants with the metaverse, their metaverse platform Mesh is already previewing some interesting features. Picture this: you and your team bonding over interactive games, roasting marshmallows, and answering fun icebreaker questions in immersive spaces. Sounds like a slightly surreal team-building exercise, right?

Meanwhile, behind closed doors, leaked internal documents hint at Microsoft’s possible integration of crypto wallets with its Xbox gaming device. CEO Spencer played it cool, downplaying the leak but not exactly shutting it down. He mentioned that plans have changed, and they’ll reveal the real deal when they’re ready. Hmmm, what could it all mean?

So, fellow digital asset investors, buckle up! The world of crypto and the metaverse is colliding with big players like Microsoft and Activision. Who knows, we might end up with a metaverse where you can game, have meetings, and show off your crypto collection all at once. It’s like living in a parallel universe where anything is possible!

What are your thoughts on Microsoft’s metaverse plans? Do you think integrating crypto wallets with Xbox is a stroke of genius or a recipe for chaos? Join the conversation and let’s dive deep into the digital rabbit hole together!
