Getting started with blockchain | The phone or computer with the wallet installed is broken, is the currency gone?

A few days ago, Dabai’s good friend Xiaohe ran over and worried about the white: the mobile phone with the wallet installed was broken, and it could not be turned on. It could not be repaired. Is the Token in the wallet gone?

Presumably, many of the small partners who have just touched the blockchain have similar doubts, that is: the mobile phone or computer with the wallet installed is broken, is the Token inside?

Today, Dabai will introduce you to relevant knowledge.

First, you need to understand where the Token is "saved". Language sometimes limits thinking. We often say "how many Tokens are in the wallet", "how many Tokens are transferred/exported from this wallet", etc. It is easy to mistakenly think that these Tokens are "stored" in the wallet.

Actually not.

The blockchain is essentially a distributed ledger. The simple understanding is that there are many independent, distributed nodes, all of which have an identical book, and all transactions and flows of the Token are recorded in these books.

The wallet is essentially a private key and address management tool. The wallet can load the blockchain books mentioned above. The private key also allows you to open the corresponding address.

In other words, the Token is actually "stored" in the blockchain ledger, and the wallet just loads the ledger data. In this case, the mobile phone or computer with the wallet is broken, it doesn't matter, because as long as the Token transaction and the flow of the blockchain account are recorded, there is no problem. These blockchain books, because they are distributed storage, even if some nodes are lost or damaged due to failures, hacking, etc., there will be no problem, because there are other normal nodes that keep the complete blockchain books. . This is the charm of blockchain technology.

Although the phone with the wallet installed or the computer is broken, the Token in the wallet will not be lost, but it does not mean that you can be careless. If you haven't backed up your mnemonics, private keys, or Keystore and corresponding passwords before, your Tokens are equivalent to "lost" because you can't use them anymore. Because decentralized wallets give us absolute control over encrypted assets, we also need to bear the risk of mnemonics, private keys or keystore loss or leakage.

With new phones and new computers, we only need to re-download the wallet software, import the private key, or mnemonic, or Keystore and related passwords to regain the previous wallet. Therefore, everyone must remember more backups!

Private keys, mnemonics, and Keystore, will you back up, or just backup some of them? How many copies will you back up when backing up? Welcome to leave a message in the message area.
