AFP: French central bank plans to test digital currency in first quarter of 2020

According to The Block, Agence France-Presse said that the French central bank will test digital currencies in 2020.

According to Agence France-Presse, at a meeting hosted by the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR) on December 4th, the French central bank's governor, Villeroy, said: The French central bank will soon test the numbers Currency, and "call for related projects at the end of the first quarter of 2020".

Villeroy says France is committed to digital currency innovation. However, he also warned France that it needed to test this new technology in a "serious and methodical" way.

Earlier, French Minister of Economy and Finance Lemer called for a "public digital currency" in the European Parliament. Lemer had previously opposed Facebook's Libra project, saying that France should stop the project if it fails to address its potential threat to monetary policy.

In addition, the Chinese central bank is also testing the digital currency DC / EP. The People's Bank of China said that it has been researching related technologies since 2014 and that DC / EP has been “basically ready”. However, in a recent statement, the People's Bank of China clarified that testing and research are continuing and no specific launch time has been disclosed.
