DAW (Decentralized Autonomous World) Outlook for a Decentralized Autonomous World
Emerging Trends Exploring the Future of Decentralized Autonomous Worlds with DAW (Decentralized Autonomous World)Author: Shawn, Co-founder of DeSchool_Booth Source: mirror
Just wrote a brief summary of the challenges and thoughts encountered by Network polis and AW (Autonomous World) recently. Also, a big thank you to YAO from metaforo and Tang Han for their discussion on the concept of DAW (Decentralized Autonomous World), which provided a main thread for these thoughts.
Accumulating some viewpoints for a longer article.
1. Are AW (Autonomous World) and Full-chain Games the same thing?
Full-chain games are just one application of AW. AW is still in its early stages, both in terms of theory and technical infrastructure. At this stage, full-chain games have become the leading direction for AW.

2. Why didn’t AW (Autonomous World) emerge during the previous bull run, but now?
The rise of Layer 2 Rollups, whether it’s OP or Starknet, has greatly enhanced computational power and provided technological support for AW (Autonomous World). At the same time, these Layer 2 solutions are in desperate need of applications like AW (Autonomous World).
3. Is it necessary to put only assets on the blockchain due to the high cost of block production?
If Layer 2 Rollups + full-chain games are successful in the future, they can educate the industry, and our perspectives need updating.
4. Mud 2.0 is not just a full-chain game engine, but also provides an on-chain database similar to on-chain SQLite, becoming an Ethereum Framework that makes smart contract development more powerful and simpler.
This is the great contribution brought to the industry by the rise of full-chain games. Even if Mud doesn’t succeed, this direction will come out, and there will certainly be teams that will succeed.
5. Governance of AW (Autonomous World)
1> A world with blockchain at its core is almost the most autonomous: anyone can enforce the introduction of rules without compromising its objectivity. You can establish tribal rules, monarchies, religions, feudal city-states, but in this autonomous world, decentralized governance is still the most probable consensus, which will be reflected in the narrative boundaries of AW.
2> When AW becomes a mainstream narrative, both OP and Starknet won’t be able to handle the performance. Some popular full-chain games and other types of AW applications will probably have their own Layer3 (app-chain). The level of governance for these app-chains will challenge the theoretical foundation of AW: “For a computational world running in the cloud, the lifespan is limited; for an autonomous world running on the blockchain, it may have an infinitely long lifespan.”
6. Does Network polis need an on-chain component? If so, what form would it take?
Network polis contains a social aspect, including local communities and offline components, but it will definitely include an on-chain component as well.
Unlike the offline part, the on-chain component should not be just a “closed organization” (O, organisation), but an “open world” (W), which is the intersection of network polis and AW (Autonomous World), forming DAW (Decentralized Autonomous World). It won’t take long to see this happen, possibly before 2026.
The early stage of AW (Autonomous World) is a fully chained game, but it is not possible for the future to have only fully chained games.
Based on the above 3 and 4, due to cost and technical reasons, avoiding on-chain applications and being obsessed with distributed databases, or relying completely on decentralized storage, our fellow enthusiasts need to rethink the future.
