NFTs on The Simpsons: A Blockchain Adventure!

The Simpsons Satirize NFTs and Crypto in 'Treehouse of Horror' Episode

Treehouse of Horror’ episode of The Simpsons takes a humorous jab at NFTs and Crypto.

Move over, cryptocurrency enthusiasts! It’s time to highlight another digital phenomenon that has taken the world by storm – non-fungible tokens (NFTs). And what better way to bring attention to this technological marvel than through the animated brilliance of The Simpsons!

In a hair-raising Halloween special episode titled “Wild Barts Can’t Be Token,” The Simpsons showcased the ever-growing craze surrounding NFTs. The storyline brilliantly mocks the overvaluation of on-chain NFTs, shining a light on their potential pitfalls.

In this episode, Marge valiantly battles her way through the treacherous blockchain to rescue Bart, who has morphed into an actual living NFT. As if that wasn’t enough, Springfield’s mayor announces plans to digitize the town’s beloved art gallery! And guess who makes appearances? You got it – the blue-chip NFTs, including the legendary Beeple, the Bored Ape Yacht Club, and even second-tier PFPs shown as nearly worthless by comparison. Talk about a rollercoaster of NFT emotions!

Noah Bolanowski, an NFT collector and advisor to the Crypt Gallery, an in-real-life NFT gallery, couldn’t help but share his enthusiasm about the episode. He tweeted, “I loved how the episode had an incredible art emphasis – the PFPs were painted largely as the bottom of the barrel, whereas art was positioned at a level of prestige. They even had BAYC holders cleaning their feet!” Bravo, Simpsons, for capturing the essence of the NFT world with such humor and precision!

This isn’t the first time The Simpsons has delved into the world of crypto. In a 2020 episode titled “Frinkcoin,” actor Jim Parsons takes on the role of an educational character, enlightening viewers about cryptocurrency. Ledger books come to life, singing and dancing, while Parsons gives us a sneak peek into the enigmatic Satoshi identity. Cryptocurrency crashed right after the episode aired, but hey, at least we learned a thing or two about distributed ledgers and blockchains!

And let’s not forget that awesome moment in “The King of Nice” when Krusty the Clown, having blown all his money on NFTs, ends up on the celebrity-for-hire app Cameo. In his own sarcastic way, Krusty refers to NFTs as “non-funny TV shows.” Oh, Krusty, never short on wit!

Apparently, the Simpsons mastermind Matt Groening just can’t resist snubbing crypto and blockchain. In a recent episode of Futurama titled “How the West Was 101001,” he pokes fun at crypto miners. It seems the intersection of animation and blockchain always leads to an entertaining concoction!

Now, here’s the fun part – did The Simpsons’ portrayal of NFTs have any impact on the market? Well, brace yourselves! The floor prices of the Bored Ape Yacht Club saw a 0.3% rise in the last 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data. And let’s not forget the Mutant Ape Yacht Club, with its floor prices shooting up by a whopping 2.9%! Surprisingly, even the cost of Ether dropped slightly by 0.14%. Who would’ve thought a cartoon could move markets?

So, fellow digital asset enthusiasts, let’s sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the comic genius of The Simpsons as they continue paving the way for crypto and blockchain awareness. Maybe one day, they’ll even give Bitcoin a cameo! Until then, stay tuned for more virtual adventures from our favorite animated family.
