Grin's first hard fork plan was launched in July: the division of labor is clear, only the east wind

Grin will usher in the first hard fork in July, algorithm adjustment, protocol upgrade, deprecated version, are you clear?

Grin's first hard fork (mid July)

Block height and date

to sum up

Grin showed at the outset that there would be four forks in the first two years of the line. Each time 60*24*7*26=262,080 blocks (nearly 6 months interval). The block heights set in the code are 262, 080, 524, 160, 786, 240 and 1, 048, 320. The first network upgrade is expected in mid-July, grin node, grin-wallet, grin-miner will be upgraded to 2.0.0 or higher, and the first batch is expected to be released in June.

This article will outline the major changes, time, and communication issues in the new upgrade for a smooth upgrade and adequate time for ecosystem participants.

Focus:

Grin v2.2.0 is a major network upgrade, users only need to update the binary file for subsequent transactions. The stored Grin is not affected, be wary of fake news and you transfer tokens.

Big change

node:

· Algorithm adjustment. Grin will adjust the PoW algorithm every six months to prevent the ASIC from building proprietary hardware to manipulate mining. So the previous Cuckaroo29 was updated to Cuckarood29, and the mining software had to upgrade the solver.

· Cuckarood29 definition: Hard fork in mid-July, Cuckaroo29 upgrade to Cuckarood29.

· Cuckarood Resource Library: https://github.com/tromp/cuckoo

· Corresponding Grin HF PoW performance: https://github.com/mimblewimble/grin/pull/2866

· Grin Mine Improvement Request: https://github.com/mimblewimble/grin-miner/pull/214

wallet:

· Changes in the bulletproof rewind plan: https://github.com/mimblewimble/grin-wallet/issues/105 . The rewind plan adds flexibility to the wallet and bulletproof hidden information. In order to trade on the forked chain, the wallet is forced to upgrade to v2.2.0 or higher.

· API upgrade to V2: V1 REST API is upgraded to V2 JSON-RPC API, the upgrade file is as follows:

· ForeignAPI

· OwnerAPI

· Slate V0 (created by Grin 1.0.2 and below) will be deprecated and will not be compatible with the new version of Grin.

Therefore, each participant in the mining pool, mining machine, exchange, and grin agreement must be upgraded to v2.2.0 or higher. A node that has not been upgraded will not be able to package a forked new block, and an unupgraded wallet will not be able to create and publish a forked transaction.

Operational requirements

schedule

To ensure everyone's smooth upgrade, Grin developers set the following schedule:

Note: The actual date may vary slightly depending on the situation, but the height of the hard-forked block does not change.

communication

Before the hard fork, the Grin team and community will communicate through the following media:
