Want to "dig" more bitcoin but it is too expensive? They steal more than 20 million yuan of electricity

On the 10th, the Zhenjiang Dantu District Procuratorate issued a message: The court approved the arrest of 13 suspects for the “3·7” mega-theft case on suspicion of theft. The reporter learned that in recent years, as the price of online virtual currency “bitcoin” has continued to rise, some people who dream of getting rich overnight have taken risks and purchased “mine mining machines” to steal electricity. It was found that the criminal gang dubbed "bitcoin" through thousands of "mineral machines" for more than two years, but it caused a total of more than 20 million yuan in power losses. At the same time, it has brought a lot of unstable factors such as immeasurable economic loss and production safety to enterprises.

During the interview, the reporter has always had a question. Why do these “mine owners” have to dig into the power to steal power? The prosecutor told the reporter that according to professionals, the Bitcoin mining machine is a computer used to earn bitcoin. It uses a large number of graphics cards to work, so it consumes a lot of power. Moreover, a machine needs to consume more than 20 degrees of electricity every 24 hours a day, and it costs 20 yuan per kilowatt hour. If you calculate according to the operation of 1000 mining machines, the photoelectric cost per day will be more than 20,000 yuan. And if you buy electricity normally and use it to produce bitcoin, there is almost no profit. Under this circumstance, the “mine owners” will “smash” the electricity used in remote factories and mines.

The prosecutor told the reporter that after investigation, from March 2017 to May 2019, the criminal suspects Lan Moumou, Mao Mo, Li, Ye Moumou, Mao Mou, Wang Moumou, Wang Mou, etc. It has purchased thousands of bitcoin mining machines and rented factories and placed "mine mining machines" in more than ten factories and mines such as Huan Bearing Factory in Xinfeng Town, Dantu District, Zhenjiang City. After renting the factory and hiring the employees, they are ready to start work, but they know that the “mining” equipment consumes a lot of electricity, so it is calculated that the private line is stealing electricity. As a result, the “experienced” criminal suspects Li Moumou, Ye Mou and others were hired to maintain the “mine machine”. During the period, a large number of secrets were used to steal electricity from renting factories and mines through the short circuit of the transformers.

After the private connection, the line loss at the location of the factory building was abnormal, which showed a sharp upward trend. This situation caught the attention of the Zhenjiang power supply department. The staff through the use of electricity information collection system data analysis, as well as multiple on-site investigations, found that there is tampering behavior, and then reported to the public security organs.

According to the prosecution, it is horrifying that, after investigation, the criminal gang has been digging for "bitcoin" through thousands of "mineral machines" for more than two years, but it has caused a total of more than 20 million yuan in power losses! At the same time, their electricity theft has brought many incalculable factors such as incalculable economic losses and production safety.

The reporter learned that in view of the seriousness of the case and the bad social impact, after the incident, the Zhenjiang Dantu District Procuratorate attached great importance to it and set up a task force at the first time. Subsequently, the deputy chief procurator of the department led the team and transferred several criminal prosecution business backbones to intervene in time to understand the case.

In the process, in response to the many cases involved in the case, the long time span, and the difficulty in collecting evidence, the hospital has repeatedly communicated with the public security organs to discuss and discuss the case, focusing on the direction of investigation and evidence collection, the calculation of the amount of stolen electricity, and the severity of the crime. More than 10 comments were made on such issues.

On June 27th, on the basis of a comprehensive and detailed review, the court approved the arrest decision for 13 suspects. Currently, this case is still under investigation.
