On February 1, Vitalik said in response to Brad Mills' tweets about BCH:
BCH is not Bitcoin.
Although as early as 2017, Vitalik clearly stated that BCH was not Bitcoin, several tweets showed that he was not 100% against BCH.
Vitalik's historical attitude towards BCH
A few months after the 2017 hard fork split the Bitcoin network into BTC and BCH, Vitalik posted a seemingly positive comment on BCH on Twitter.
On November 13, 2017, Vitalik wrote on Twitter:
I think BCH is a legitimate competitor to Bitcoin. I think Bitcoin's failure to maintain reasonable fees by increasing the block size is a major change to its 'original plan', which is morally equivalent to a hard fork.
Although someone might interpret this tweet as Vitalik's support for BCH, another tweet he posted on the same day clearly showed a completely different attitude.
He said in a follow-up tweet:
Having said that, * now *, I think trying to claim 'BCH = Bitcoin' is a bad idea because it is just a minority opinion representing the 'Bitcoin Community'.
Vitalik's recent views on BCH
About a year later, in August 2018, Vitalik replied to a tweet about BCH and made comments consistent with his previous thoughts.
Twitter user Meni Rosenfeld wrote on Twitter:
It has been a year since BCH forked from Bitcoin, and it is clear that it has lost its appeal as 'Bitcoin'. BCH had had a chance, but now it should stop confusing the market with the inappropriate name 'Bitcoin Cash'.
Vitalik replied:
I disagree with you. 'BCH is Bitcoin' is unrealistic, but the name 'Bitcoin Cash' itself is perfectly acceptable.
Vitalik does not seem to always have a negative attitude towards Bitcoin, but over the years he has clearly shown the difference between BTC and BCH.
Vitalik commented in a tweet from the BCH Development Fund:
If you want to know which currency I support, I am on the side of the currency that takes product challenges seriously, and I am willing to adjust ideological bias while maintaining a commitment to core decentralized values to help them realize Vision.
Cointelegraph asked Vitalik for more details, but received no response as of press time.
