Multichain founder taken away, funds transferred by relatives. The project’s funds have been transferred by a certain IP address in Yunnan, China and Zhao Jun’s sister, and the project has been forced to completely cease operations.
In a statement, the Multichain team stated that Multichain CEO Zhao Jun was taken away by the police from his home on May 12th this year and has since lost contact with the Multichain team. After contacting the MPC node operator, the team learned that the project’s access keys to the MPC node servers had been revoked. These MPC node servers are actually running under Zhao Jun’s personal cloud server account, and there are no team members who can access Zhao Jun’s personal cloud server account, so no one can log into these MPC servers.
After contacting Zhao Jun’s family, the project team learned that Zhao Jun’s computers, mobile phones, hardware wallets, and mnemonic phrases have all been confiscated by the police. Since the start of the project, all operating funds and investor investments have been controlled by Zhao Jun. Currently, all of the team’s funds and server access permissions are in the hands of Zhao Jun and the police.
Due to a lack of information related to the case, the team can only try their best to maintain the project’s operation using the remaining access privileges on some non-MPC servers that have not been revoked. According to the advice of lawyers, the team chooses to cooperate as much as possible with the requests of Zhao Jun’s family and comply with local legal requirements, not disclosing unauthorized information about the case to the public.

On June 4th, Zhao Jun’s family successfully logged into the cloud server platform using historical information on their home computer. However, Zhao Jun’s family only allowed Multichain engineers to physically access the home computer to fix the technical issues with Router2 and Router5.
During this period, Zhao Jun’s family and lawyers have been communicating with the police. The team has not been informed of the details of the case, but learned that Zhao Jun will be released soon and requested to continue maintaining the system and wait for further news. The Multichain protocol continues to operate as designed. The team is doing their best to maintain the operation of the Multichain protocol and solve user problems with limited resources.
On July 7th, user assets locked on the MPC address were abnormally transferred to an unknown address. According to Zhao Jun’s sister, login information from Kunming IP addresses was found on the cloud server platform, as well as a series of operations involving transfers from the MPC address.
On July 9th, Zhao Jun’s sister transferred the remaining user assets in the router pool and subsequently notified the team and several project parties of this asset preservation action. The funds were transferred to an EOA address controlled by Zhao Jun’s sister.

On July 13th, according to information provided by Zhao Jun’s family, Zhao Jun’s sister has been detained by the police. Now, Zhao Jun’s sister has also lost contact. The status of the assets she holds is uncertain, so the team believes it is necessary to inform the community of all known information.
Due to a lack of alternative information sources and corresponding operational funds, the team has been forced to cease operations. If there are any further notices and developments, the team will update the community accordingly.
