US President Biden may have inadvertently become the latest brand ambassador for Bitcoin, as a new “disgusted” video advertisement was made for his re-election campaign.

On August 3rd, President Biden wrote on Twitter, “A cup of Joe has never tasted so good,” and attached a video of himself drinking coffee from a cup.

The Bitcoin and cryptocurrency community quickly noticed the design of the coffee cup, with a pair of glowing red “laser eyes” on his face – an element that Bitcoin enthusiasts like to add when designing avatars.

Although the origin of this expression pack is unclear, the phenomenon of laser eyes is part of a movement on social media that aims to push the price of Bitcoin to $100,000 by the end of 2021, a goal that has not been achieved. The most famous laser-eyed figures have included NFL star Tom Brady, Paris Hilton, and Elon Musk.

It is often used as a symbol to more broadly demonstrate their bullish outlook on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

President Biden’s post was filled with responses from the cryptocurrency community, who were delighted and found it amusing at his apparent oversight.

“Joe Biden is now a Bitcoin boss. Laser eyes and all. Haters gonna hate,” one user wrote.

Other users expressed that Biden had just provided the “biggest support in Bitcoin history,” while another user stated that Biden was trying to win the title of “Bitcoin maximalist.”

The Biden administration has faced criticism from the community for its unwelcoming stance on cryptocurrencies, including controversial tax proposals targeting digital asset miners and other “anti-crypto” political efforts. Therefore, the design of the coffee cup is unlikely to reference Bitcoin.

The name of this coffee cup is derived from “Dark Brandon” – another self of Biden online. The “Dark Brandon” meme depicts Biden as a darker and more avant-garde person – his supporters often use this meme to promote his policy victories.
