Google extension impersonates Ledger official identity, 1.4 million XRP have been stolen

Ledger users, be careful. Some perpetrators want to take your backup seeds. If you see ads for the Ledger Live Chrome extension on Google-dodge it like a plague. According to xrplorer forensics, about 1.4 million XRP have been stolen so far, but all currencies are at risk of being stolen.

Yesterday, the XRP tracking browser xrplorer forensics posted a warning message on Twitter stating that more than 200,000 XRP have been stolen in the past month. This is due to a fake "Ledger Live" Chrome extension that stole the backup mnemonics of the victims and stole their cryptocurrency. It warned:

"The accounts have been emptied."

xrplorer forensics only has data related to XRP. However, the agency warns that all cryptocurrencies are at risk:

"We don't have data in other currencies. Never download hardware wallet tools directly outside the official website. This screenshot shows a POST request from an extension."

What's more worrying is that a few hours later, xrplorer forensics updated the progress of things again. The initial numbers are far from real. In fact, the number of stolen XRPs was close to 1.4 million.

Based on further analysis, the team was able to deduce that although most of the stolen XRP was still kept in an account without moving, some funds have recently been sold on HitBTC. The exchange has been notified, but no formal response has been made to the issue so far.

This problem will not only happen to XRP holders, but all Ledger users. It's a wake-up call for everyone in this industry. In 2019 alone, more than $ 4.5 billion worth of cryptocurrencies were stolen, and you should often learn the best ways to cope online.

Never access your wallet or exchange account via an email link. Do not download plugins easily, unless you are 100% sure of the source, and you need to collect the relevant official pages to ensure the credibility of the transaction.

There are many hackers and scammers in the cryptocurrency field who want to steal your funds. Don't let them succeed.
