V Shen Shenzhen 飙 Chinese: It is difficult to establish the advantage of the alliance chain. The current public chain is not enough to support high-frequency application development.

"I didn't expect V God's Chinese to be so good."

On September 23, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin attended the “East-European Blockchain Eco-New Development” forum held at Shenzhen University. At the round table of the forum, Vitalik picked up the Chinese language and pointed to the issue of the alliance chain. Vitalik Buterin believes that at present, it is recognized that the alliance chain's advantages in solving scalability problems, privacy issues, and application landings are difficult to establish.

In addition to Vitalik Buterin, round table guests, Professor Xiang Yuhua, Dean of the School of Big Data and Internet, Shenzhen University of Technology, Professor Cai Wei, Director of the Edge Computing and Blockchain System Laboratory, Institute of Technology, Shenzhen University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen Tencent Computer System Co., Ltd. Professor Zhang Shengli, director of the blockchain business of the company, and deputy director of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering of Shenzhen University, is the executive deputy director of the Blockchain Research Center. Most of the guests have a positive view of the current development of the alliance chain. Perhaps Vitalik wants to better understand the meaning of the guests and the audience. When it comes to the issue of the alliance chain, Vitalik deliberately uses Chinese.

The scalability, privacy and other advantages of the alliance chain may not last long

At present, the development of blockchain commercial applications is mainly based on the alliance chain, and large technology companies also choose to develop alliance chains and conduct commercial implementation. For example, some of Tencent's current products, including the bus code, use the alliance chain; Ali's ant blockchain is also based on the alliance chain; last year Ping An Group released the alliance chain for the financial industry…

The alliance chain application boom is obvious. For this phenomenon, Vitalik Buterin said that from the perspective of its observation, in the past few years, we have been very fascinated by the alliance chain in the business, but the ceiling of the alliance chain has been revealed. "Many alliance chain projects need Living, some creative alliance chains from one member, two members, to many members will encounter trust problems.” V God also gave an example to illustrate what is the trust problem: “This is like Some people want to join a big company, others don't want it because they worry that big companies will control their entire lives."

In addition, Vitalik Buterin also contrasts the development path between the alliance chain and the public chain, pointing out its development bottleneck:

First of all, for the scalability problem, many public chains are not enough to support the development of high-frequency applications, but the situation may be different after five years. "The expansion of the public chain may be much higher after five years."

Secondly, for the privacy issue, the difference between the alliance chain and the public chain is that you can see the information on the public chain. You can see the information licensor in the alliance chain. Vitalik believes that if privacy protection is used on the public chain. The technology, the advantage of the alliance chain does not exist.

Finally, Vitalik Buterin believes that the alliance chain is not the best decentralization method, and can be used as an excellent application in the public chain, and can only be applied in a coalition chain. (Possibly, the alliance chain is not completely decentralized, and its credit relies on alliance members, which means that credit costs are not completely eliminated.)

Although pointed out the problems that may arise in the technology and application of the alliance chain, Vitalik Buterin does not deny the contribution of the alliance chain to the application. "From a business perspective, in the future, the alliance chain and the public chain may be better combined. "Is this a personal point of view, the public chain is the best route? Vitalik did not explain at the scene.

The alliance chain is only a compromise solution at this stage.

The round table also mentions the issue that the alliance chain can be better regulated.

Professor Xiang Yuhua, Dean of the School of Big Data and Internet of Shenzhen University of Technology, pointed out that the blockchain industry in the early stage put pressure on the government when it raised the word “decentralization”, and the alliance chain can make a good relationship between the two parties. Local mediation method.

Professor Xiang Xianghua believes that no matter at home and abroad, many governments have used the alliance chain to launch the application of blockchain. He introduced the example of Germany's medical chain. Therefore, he believes that the alliance chain can better promote cooperation with the government. The alliance chain is a compromise."

However, in Vitalik Buterin's view, the public needs to trust the blockchain first, and the application of the blockchain is difficult to obtain multi-party trust, so it is regulated by many countries. Some applications have previously destroyed everyone's trust.

"When the alliance chain is adopted in large numbers, people may gradually discover that many problems cannot be solved by the alliance chain. At that time, the public chain may help solve these problems." Associate Dean of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Shenzhen University Professor Zhang Shengli, executive deputy director of the Blockchain Research Center, believes that at this stage, the alliance chain has limited scope, and the issues of centralization and trust between enterprises can be solved. The technical difficulty is much lower than that of the public chain, but when the user scale is expanded, There will be qualitative differences.

In addition, how long the application "baton" between the alliance chain and the public chain will be handed over, and different sounds appear on the round table.

As mentioned above, Vitalik Buterin clearly pointed out that the current public chain can not support commercial landing, but after five years, the expansion will be greatly improved. However, Professor Cai Wei, director of the Laboratory of Edge Computing and Blockchain Systems at the Institute of Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen University, does not fully endorse this view.

In Cai Wei’s view, achieving this vision within five years is too difficult. Taking the example of the etheric cat, Cai Wei pointed out that no matter whether it is the genetic value of the etheric cat or the technically constructing something like the HTTP protocol from the bottom, it is difficult to solve in five years.

In this regard, Vitalik Buterin said that depending on what kind of application, not everything needs to be wound up, and some better distributed or centralized platforms can be considered.

The significance of Vitalik Buterin's insistence on the public chain is that many applications, even decentralization from the base layer, are trusted by many people.
