First Impressions of Threads: Is this “Twitter Killer” any good?
Threads: Is it a good "Twitter Killer"?Today, Threads, a Twitter-like app under Meta, was released on the App Store and Google Play ahead of schedule. This is a text-based messaging app based on Instagram, and users can directly migrate their Instagram accounts and social relationships to Threads.
The folks at Foresight News were discussing the “Twitter killer” app that was already trending before it was launched:
Neutral and objective
Peng SUN: Compared to Twitter, the first impression of Threads is that it is as refreshing and concise as Instagram (Jen Li agrees, perhaps because there is no extra information after the username, and there is space between the copy and the account name, which looks clean and sophisticated, while Twitter’s screen is more cluttered).
As for the product experience, there are some unique features and criticisms of the Meta-owned ecosystem:
- Meta launches Twitter competitor Threads:
- Review: “Twitter Killer” Threads officially launched. How does it perform?
- Dr. Lu Qi, the founder of MiraclePlus, says that AI and Web3 will create a new data-driven society.
- The account is strongly associated with Instagram and can be posted on Instagram, but the username cannot be changed within Threads, which is not friendly to users who do not use Instagram on a regular basis. If you want to replace Twitter, the ecological entrance should be more open at least.
- Like Instagram, the account can be set as a private account. Individual posts can also hide the number of likes, which can to some extent hide social relationships. Users who are not single-sided or mutually followed cannot see the likes and comments of other users on the post, which is similar to WeChat Moments.
- Threads is currently only available on mobile devices and does not support the web, which still caters to mobile social users, so external links support Twitter with one click.
- Compared to Twitter, it returns more to the essence of social connections between people. It is said that if there is a lot of edge content in the Instagram content itself, Threads will limit the login, which is great because it reduces yellow promotion and makes the world quieter.
- Instagram cannot browse pictures in full screen, but Threads can. It can also save pictures. For small partners who like to share life and love life, content that is text-based with Instagram-style photos as a supplement will have a different experience.
Chloe: As an old Instagram user, Threads’ visual experience is as good as ever. If it can be migrated to the Web3 matrix in the future, I will continue to use it.
Criticisms:
- Clicking on the WeChat external link cannot directly enter the homepage of the shared business card;
- The relevance of the recommendation flow on the homepage is not strong;
- The Chinese language is not supported in the mobile system configuration, and translation (English) cannot be viewed;
- When publishing pictures, it still does not support functions such as image size modification and color adjustment.
Luffy: For someone who doesn’t use Instagram, I am completely uninterested. Is it too hasty or lacking confidence for Zuck to launch a product that is not much different from the Twitter experience, amid the trend of “escaping Twitter”?
Shingle: There are two continuations, which makes people very uncomfortable.
