The developer's job is "deep work," which requires a lot of research and planning. Most developers keep a low profile and do the hard work for us, but their contributions should not be ignored.

Talking on Twitter, talking and laughing in the speech, it may be easier to get the attention of the public, but the eternal spread of masterpieces can never be separated from the line-by-line code. In this series, we mainly showcase these blockchain engineers who have contributed a lot of high-quality code to us, and introduce them to the great craftsmen who hide behind the project.

Wladimir J. van der Lann (laanwj)

Wladimir is the chief maintainer of Bitcoin and the most active bitcoin core developer.

On April 8, 2014, Gavin Andresen (former Bitcoin core developer and chief maintainer) resigned and Wladimir van der Laan agreed to take over as the chief maintainer of the Bitcoin core project.

Wladimir is a Ph.D. from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He mainly writes computer-related hardware content in his blog.

Many popular cryptocurrencies are now forked bitcoin, so Wladimir is almost the most repeating top contributor in the cryptocurrency code database.

Gavin Wood

Gavin co-founded the Ethereum project and invented the Solidity language.

He also wrote the first POC (Proof of Concept) for Ethereum and wrote the Yellow Book, the official specification of the Ethereum blockchain.

In 2015, Gavin co-founded Parity Technologies (then known as Ethcore), which currently maintains Ethereum Parity customers.

Parity Technologies is now developing a new blockchain network called Polkadot, a multi-chain platform. He often writes articles on Web3 content on Medium.

Gavin has made significant contributions to multiple repositories throughout the Ethereum ecosystem.

Pieter Wuille (Sipa)

Pieter holds a Ph.D. Leuven University in Computer Science.

After discovering Bitcoin in 2010, Pieter has been a Bitcoin core developer since May 2011. He co-founded Blockstream, a company that made significant contributions to the Bitcoin core project.

In 2012, Wuille released BIP 32, which introduced a layered deterministic wallet into Bitcoin, which is now a widely adopted cryptocurrency wallet standard.

Pieter also added a segregated testimony that paved the way for many innovations, such as the lightning network and the Schnorr signature on Bitcoin.

Peter also maintains a website (http://bitcoin.sipa.be/) where you can track Bitcoin metrics. He often writes articles on the Blockstreams blog.

Olaoluwa Osuntokun (@roasbeef)

Olaoluwa Osuntokun (Laolu) is the co-founder and CTO of Lightning Labs. He is the main developer of LND, one of the main implementations of Lightning Networks.

Laolu has been a Bitcoin developer for more than 4 years and is the author of several BIPs (BIP 157 + 158) and has conducted active research on the future operation and evolution of Lightning Networks.

Forbes named Olaoluwa as a student under the age of 30 under 30 in 2019. He received a bachelor's and master's degree in computer science from UCSB, where he studied applied cryptography.

James Lee (jl777)

James Lee is responsible for the development of KOMODO. James contributed a number of elegant innovations such as atomic switching and multi-chain architecture (smart chains), delayed workload proof (dPow), and adaptivePoW on the Komodo blockchain.

Before KOMODO, what James did was Supernet on NXT.

He doesn't have any social media accounts, but in Komodo's Discord, he is easily accessible.

Matt Corallo (bluematt)

Matt joined Bitcoin development in 2011 and has since contributed to the Bitcoin protocol. He also co-founded Blocksteam and until January 2017 he has been involved as a technical consultant in Blockstream.

Matt also worked at Chaincode Labs (a research and development team based in New York City) to study cryptocurrencies and other P2P decentralized systems. Matt was recently hired by Square Crypto.

Corallo spent four months as a software engineer at Google and a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The following is what Matt said in the interview:

“I have been contributing to Bitcoin Core since high school, including building state-of-the-art fast block relay networks (currently available at http://bitcoinfibre.org and also used by Blockstream satellites) at all levels of the code base. I did a lot of work on Bitcoin Core to help create the Blockstream, where I wrote most of the original sidechain logic, I built the first implementation of the payment channel (in Bitcoinj) and now maintains one RUST's Lightning Library is designed to enable existing wallets to integrate lightning more tightly and is designed and still working to replace various mining protocols to re-centralize mining."

Péter Szilágyi (karalabe)

Peter is the lead developer of Go-client (Geth). Geth is one of the most popular open source Ethereum clients. He joined Ethereum in 2015 and worked for Whisper, but later moved to the Ethereum client.

Prior to joining Ethereum, Peter worked on Iris, a decentralized cloud messaging project. Peter is from Romania. He holds a doctorate. Cloud computing from Babes-Bolyai University.

Egor is one of the biggest contributors to the Insolar project. Insolar is the best solution to simplify interaction between companies. The platform's main features are scalability, security, simplified development, interoperability, user protection and compliance. Last year, Insolar's Github submitted the most.

We contacted Egor and asked a few questions:

Prior to joining Insolar, Egor had more than five years of experience building distributed systems, backends and APIs. He began working at Insolar in September 2018.

His main contribution to the Insolar project was the development of the first version of the Pulsar node to help build a test framework for Insolar. He also developed the foundation for a distributed list of links called filaments, which helps Insolar track the state of objects at different points in time. Currently, he spends a lot of time analyzing the Insolar network and looking for performance issues.

Chriseth(ChristianReitwießner)

Christian is a theoretical computer scientist with a Ph.D. Chris is mainly involved in Solidity Langauge, zk-snarks, and cpp-ethereum. In his spare time, he is also working on expansion solutions such as true bit and Plasma.

Jonasschnelli (Jonas Schnelli)

Jonas Schnelli is the core developer, maintainer and co-founder of Bitbox. He also developed and created libbtc, an open source bitcoin library written in C.

Jonas participated in Bitcoin in 2011 and began contributing code to Bitcoin Core in 2013. Jonas is primarily involved in bitcoin trimming and SPV customer work. Since the last three years, Jonas has focused on p2p encryption.
