Cooperating with TON, Tencent wants to help Telegram create an ‘international WeChat’?

Tencent collaborates with TON to assist Telegram in building an 'international WeChat'?

On September 27th, it was reported that the social platform Telegram and its subsidiary, the TON (Telegram Open Network) Foundation, have partnered with Tencent. They are expected to transform Telegram into a “super application ecosystem” similar to WeChat, allowing third-party developers and businesses to develop mini-programs to interact with users, ranging from games to restaurants.

In fact, Tencent Cloud’s cooperation with the TON Foundation this time is to provide nodes for the TON public chain, in order to achieve further development.

It is reported that Telegram has been developing a platform where third-party developers, from games to restaurants, can build mini-applications to interact with users: “Developers can use JavaScript to create infinitely flexible interfaces that can be launched within Telegram and can completely replace any website.”

Compared to the TON, which is Telegram’s “favorite son,” Telegram is more famous for its various encrypted communication groups, robots, and announcement platforms.

To build this platform, Telegram has laid the foundation of its blockchain with the TON Foundation. Just recently, the TON Foundation announced a partnership with Tencent Cloud, stating that Tencent Cloud “has successfully supported TON validators and plans to further expand its services to help meet TON’s high computational intensity and network bandwidth requirements.”

In a previous in-depth article by BlockBeats, an in-depth analysis of Tencent’s blockchain business pointed out that Tencent used to have “the most comprehensive metaverse layout,” but now its blockchain business is mainly led by Tencent Cloud.

However, Tencent’s exploration in the field of blockchain and Web3 is not driven from top to bottom. The organizational structure is too chaotic and loose, lacking a real strategic backbone. Under the dual pressure of cost reduction and efficiency improvement within the group and top-level decision-making, Tencent’s blockchain business was ultimately severely cut. Now, in the new Web3 and virtual asset field, Tencent has completely retreated and lost its ability to compete with the Alibaba Group.

In addition, TON, backed by Telegram, is a Layer 1 blockchain solution developed in 2018. An earlier article also analyzed TON under Telegram and believed that it is expected to achieve further development this year.

All in all, TON is a very promising project that has increased its adoption opportunities by leveraging Telegram Messenger. In the challenging year of 2022, it is one of the best-performing tokens.

In fact, since this year, the TON Foundation has not only cooperated with project parties in various crypto industries, but also continuously deepened its exploration progress in the crypto industry.

On September 21, decentralized electronic protocol signing platform EthSign announced its cooperation with the TON Foundation and jointly launched the EthSign bot, which supports users to receive contract notifications to be signed on Telegram and sign contracts within Telegram, greatly simplifying transactions.

On September 13, the TON Foundation announced that it will launch the TON SLianGuaice, a Telegram-based self-hosted digital wallet, globally in November 2023, excluding the United States and some other countries. In addition, the TON Foundation stated that projects built on TON will have priority access to the Telegram Ads advertising platform of the messaging application.

According to the team, all users of TON SLianGuaice can seamlessly connect their Telegram accounts to various TON-based Web3 applications. TON SLianGuaice will serve as a blockchain account, fully supporting the TON ecosystem, including Toncoin, Jettons, and Collectibles. Currently, users can directly connect to TON SLianGuaice from TON-based dApps.

On April 19, the TON Foundation announced the launch of a TON-Ethereum bi-directional cross-chain bridge to support the exchange of ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum with wrapped assets on TON.

On January 5, according to CoinDesk, the TON Foundation launched a data storage ecosystem called TON Storage. The project aims to enable users to exchange files of any size while providing economic incentives to node operators for hosting user files. Node operators and users create smart contracts on the TON blockchain, ensuring that users pay a fixed amount of Toncoin to store files for a predetermined period of time, ensuring that users can store data “almost permanently”.
