Hayden Adams reflects on Uniswap's unsettling history.

Looking back at the history of Uniswap, there have been many unsettling moments.

Raising VC funding, adding a fee switch in v2, no token, issuing a token, criticizing Nomi before he fled, blocking certain tokens in the UI, geoblocking OFAC countries, concentrating liquidity, BUSL, and so on…..

Some people hoped that I would not raise funds for large-scale construction, but instead seek grants until the funds were exhausted, which I gave up.

Some people wanted me to move abroad, issue a token, and be cautious for the rest of my life.

Some people hoped that I would engage in nonviolent resistance, deliberately defying laws (usually those I consider unjust), and accepting legal consequences.

Some people disagreed with the structural, economic, or technical decisions made.

I am involved in Crypto-related work because I believe it can have a tremendous positive impact on the world by eliminating “gatekeepers” and increasing ways to acquire value and ownership, just as the Internet does with information.

I am committed to building Uniswap because I believe it has tremendous potential to achieve this goal.

I am incredibly proud of Uniswap v1, v2, v3, and v4, on which thousands of projects have been built, network applications with millions of users, wallets with hundreds of thousands of downloads, and airdrops that have changed the lives of thousands of people worldwide.

I have made many mistakes, but please support the decisions I have made. I am a bit introverted, so I am not good at continuous public communication. But I will continue to push myself to participate as openly, transparently, and clearly as possible.

We are still in the early stages – this technology and revolution will last for decades. I will be involved for the long term – that’s why I’ve been working in the crypto field for 5 years.

Hope we as an industry can be more united and transcend small differences.

The more united we are, the stronger we are, and the harder we are to beat. So let’s be friends.

Uniswap DAO registration is now live. All Uniswap V3 protocol users who participate in DAO voting are eligible for the second round of $UNI airdrops. Participation link: https://join-uniswap.org
