Tether CTO: AI will choose Bitcoin over centralized cryptocurrencies
Tether's CTO, Paolo Ardoino, believes that AI will choose Bitcoin over centralized cryptocurrencies because of its decentralized nature. He states that Bitcoin's open-source nature and decentralization make it the better choice. Thus, according to Ardoino, Bitcoin is the preferred choice for the future of cryptocurrencies.Author: GARETH JENKINSON, COINTELEGRAPH; Translation: Matsuyuki, Blocking
Blockingolo Ardoino, CTO of Tether, said that if humans merge with artificial intelligence (AI) in the future, Bitcoin may become the preferred currency of sentient machine intelligence.
Ardoino believes that if artificial intelligence uses digital currency in the future, the decentralized nature of the Bitcoin protocol will make it the natural choice for AI: “I think AGI will definitely choose Bitcoin.”
AGI, or artificial general intelligence, refers to artificial intelligence that can learn how to perform intellectual tasks that humans can perform. The emergence of large language learning models like ChatGPT has unlocked the potential of artificial intelligence and general artificial intelligence, which will fundamentally change many industries and the way humans perform a range of tasks.

Ardoino believes that the future of humanity is likely to involve the fusion of humans with artificial intelligence through bionic elements and “enhancing brain capabilities.” He stressed that Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, is a typical example of exploring the possibilities of enhancing cognition using artificial intelligence technology.
Ardoino points out that movies like The Matrix are popular representations of the dystopian AI-dominated future, and he believes that AGI will naturally choose Bitcoin over centralized currencies: “Machines will always choose something completely decentralized and uncontrollable. If machines have to pay for electricity to work, they will always use something beyond human control. In my opinion, they will use Bitcoin.”
Ardoino says that in the next 20 to 30 years, humans may coexist with artificial intelligence in any form. However, this may depend on different concerns about reversing aging, rather than integrating artificial intelligence and bionic elements into humans to enhance their physical and mental abilities.
“The future tells me that we are heading towards enhanced intelligence and ultimately the fusion of artificial intelligence with normal brains. Perhaps this is the future of humanity.”
Given the “disruptive” nature of the artificial intelligence ecosystem, asset management giants such as BlackRock have identified the artificial intelligence ecosystem as a major investment opportunity. The mid-year outlook report emphasized that the rise of the S&P 500 is increasingly concentrated in a few technology stocks.
