The mischief of centralized power and unfair rules of the game has been a norm for gamers for over a decade. However, a group of game enthusiasts decided to change this status quo. They are determined to create a game world that belongs to the community, a chain-based game that is transparent, fair and secure. This is the birth of BladeDAO. In this article, we will introduce in detail BladeDAO’s vision, goals, and how to realize this exciting game world.

As a group of game enthusiasts, the story of Blade DAO began a few months ago. When we heard that Blizzard decided to terminate its cooperation with NetEase, we were shocked. NetEase is a Chinese game publisher that has been operating Blizzard games for 14 years. We spent countless hours playing “Overwatch”, “World of Warcraft” and “Hearthstone” together. Suddenly, everything changed, and we found ourselves unable to play the games that once brought us endless joy and friendship.

We can’t help but ask: Is this the fate that players are destined to accept?

At that time, we decided to create our own chain-based game, inspired by the concept of a self-governing world from 0xBlockingrc. Our vision is clear: a game that does not rely on any centralized authority or intermediary, but on the collective power and creativity of players. A transparent, fair, secure, and censorship-resistant game. A game that belongs to the community rather than a greedy company.

First, let us define what a chain-based game is:

A chain-based game is a type of blockchain game where every aspect of game logic is processed through smart contracts on a decentralized server. This means everything that happens in the game, from the creation and ownership of assets, to game rules and mechanics, and to interactions and outcomes between players, are recorded and executed on the blockchain. There is no centralized server or authority that can interfere or manipulate the game state.

So why BladeDAO? Why on-chain gaming?

The value proposition lies in the unparalleled transparency, security, and innovation that on-chain gaming brings. These games are gateways to a whole new world of gaming, a world that is truly player-centered and collaborative. Here are BladeDAO’s goals:

  1. Player-centered economy: We flip the traditional gaming economy on its head. Game assets truly belong to players. Forget developer control or platform restrictions—if you win it, it’s yours. Trade it, sell it, lend it out, or use it in other on-chain games (welcome partners!)—it’s your asset, you call the shots.
  2. Fair and transparent gaming: Imagine a game where everyone follows the same rules, and every player can verify those rules. The current state of the game, including progress in each level, your unit level, the number of gems collected, is all stored on the blockchain. This ensures consistency and persistence of game state, as well as fairness and transparency.
  3. Permissionless innovation: We don’t just make games; we build a platform for creativity and collaboration. We invite developers to remix our games and invite players to create their own content. With the power of smart contracts, you can develop on top of BladeDAO or modify it to create something entirely new.
  4. Community building: Through community, our players can team up, strategize, and share experiences. There is no centralized authority to dictate how the game is played, and players can band together to create their own stories in the BladeDAO universe.

Easy Onboarding to On-Chain Gaming: From Idle to PvP

However, navigating this new world is not without its obstacles. It can be a steep learning curve for new players and developers entering this space, and we want to simplify this process, lower the barriers to entry, and provide a rewarding and accessible gaming environment. That’s why in Season 1, we plan to lower the barrier to entry for both regular players and Web3 developers, while providing incentives and rewards for players and developers who participate in and contribute to the game’s development.

So how do we achieve this goal? One way is to integrate the concept of “idle games” into BladeDAO. The appeal of idle games lies in their simplicity and minimal player input when running in the background. They attract a wide audience with a casual and relaxing experience. Our first game LOV’s first season adopts this style, hoping to reduce the friction and frustration that may come with playing blockchain games.

To ensure our player developers are well-prepared, we will also provide comprehensive tutorials and documentation, including how to interact with our smart contracts without any interface. In addition, we will establish a developer program inviting blockchain game enthusiasts to participate and contribute to the development of our games while earning BLADE tokens.

As we enter the second season, players will experience the excitement of defeating opponents and escaping a series of levels driven by zero-knowledge technology and encryption.

The second season will introduce a new game mode: PvP. In this mode, players can challenge other players with their units. Battles will take place in underground dungeons with different difficulties and rewards. Players need to strategize and use different hero skills wisely to gain advantages.

By switching from PvE to PvP mode, we hope to increase the competitiveness and fun of the game. We also hope to demonstrate the power and potential of zero-knowledge technology and encryption in achieving fast, secure, on-chain games.

You may be wondering: what’s different from traditional games? Our game is called an on-chain game because it has composability from the beginning, providing true interactivity and flexible gameplay experience.

In LOV’s first season, users will embark on a journey to plunder various treasures from fierce enemies and monsters, with each dungeon taking a certain number of blocks to complete. For those who know some code, your gaming experience can be automated and personalized using smart contracts. For example, if a level of dungeon requires 100 blocks to complete, you can write your own smart contract to interact with our game’s smart contract. This way, you can trigger specific game functions every 100 blocks, automate the task process, and ensure you don’t miss any reward opportunities.

Resources obtained from each dungeon can be used to create upgrade cards for your heroes, providing stronger abilities and attributes. Similarly, the entire process can even be handled through smart contracts without the need for a user interface. You can write another smart contract that regularly monitors your in-game assets, checking if enough resources have been accumulated to meet the requirements for unit upgrades. Once the conditions are met, the smart contract can automatically trigger on-chain actions to use resources to create upgrade cards. This way, even in the extreme case of a failure in our frontend, your game can still continue.

Conclusion

Starting from passionate players, we saw the disappointment of centralized giants in the gaming world, but we are very satisfied with the progress of the project we have created so far. Our development work is ongoing, and the first DEMO is about to be released. Looking back at our initial question, we can now answer with certainty: compromise is not the fate that players should accept, at least not in BladeDAO.

We will continue to update Blocking; if you have any questions or suggestions, please contact us!
