Two years ago, shortly after the birth of the Dope Wars universe, we embarked on a new exploration, attempting to build a new type of game. The game was inspired by a classic arbitrage game from 1984 called “Drug Wars” [1], but completely developed on the blockchain.
Roll Your Own [2] seeks to return to the mod-making scene that emerged in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Back then, we often built new things on top of childhood legends, and players had a deep emotional connection to their communities. The emerging creativity led to innovative mechanisms and new types of explosions.
This is Autonomous Worlds. A foundation that inspires our collective creativity, with inherent attributes of the physical world – naturally combinable and scalable; and the characteristics of the blockchain – cannot be shut down and is trustworthy and neutral. This provides the necessary foundation for collaborative development of the new digital universe.
However, the process of implementing the plan has disappointed us, as we quickly encountered significant challenges that hindered its progress, which led us to establish Cartridge.
01. Introduction to Cartridge
Cartridge is a team of native blockchain developers – world-class engineers and designers – our mission is to realize the vision of full-chain games and Autonomous Worlds. We are not only developing games, but also developing related tools and infrastructure.
In the past year, we have been working hard: rethinking the blockchain, starting from the unique needs of on-chain games, and striving to solve challenging problems in scalability, reputation, and hidden information, using new technologies such as zkps, mpc, and secure enclaves to achieve this goal.
The infrastructure we are involved in developing:
- Controller: This is our first product, a portable player account and personal information page. Using account abstraction on Starknet, we have implemented Webauthn and LianGuaisskeys [3] functions, helping users sign transactions and achieve session keys. It provides players with a seamless onboarding experience [4] and has opened more than 5000 accounts for games such as Briq, Topology’s Mumu, Influence, and Realms.
- Dojo [5]: A provable game engine and toolchain for building full-chain games. Cartridge, Realms, and Briq have all participated in the construction of this public product, and Cartridge has been responsible for leading the development of this project since early this year. Dojo provides the foundation for provable games, offering an ECS framework, tools such as Sozo for migration planning and deployment, tools like Torii for real-time automatic indexing, and tools like Katana for high-performance, modular sorting. Today, Dojo has a vibrant developer community that is experimenting with developing full-chain games, and new teams join every week.
- Slot: The hosting infrastructure service we provide, which provides the necessary tools to easily fork, index, and scale on-chain games – from local development to multiplayer testing to large-scale, multi-region, sharded deployment – all conveniently done through the command line.
- World Explorer: Using the structure provided by Dojo to build a universal interface for exploring the past, interacting with the present, and creating the future of on-chain games and Autonomous Worlds. World Explorer will be a key driver, providing a low-level interface for players and developers to observe the on-chain state and a general interface for managing the collaborative and evolutionary process of autonomous world.
Games we are involved in developing:
- Roll Your Own: A classic, fully on-chain arbitrage game built using Dojo and deployed on the Cartridge-hosted game chain. Currently in alpha testing, with over 1000 rounds of gameplay in the first quarter. Stay tuned for the second quarter, coming at the end of September.

- Drive AI: An ambitious experiment to push the boundaries of verifiable compute. This simulated environment, inspired by the classic arcade game “road-fighter,” includes a fully on-chain physics engine and neural network inference. Train your model and use zero-knowledge proofs to demonstrate its performance without revealing the solution. This is a collaboration project between Cartridge, Giza, and Starknet Explorations teams.

- Tsubasa: A football game based on the manga series of the same name. It is a simulation football game with a twist: players can use skills like Tiger Shot to make the game more exciting. This is a collaboration project between Cartridge and Starknet Explorations teams.

02. Financing Progress
Today, we are pleased to announce that we have completed a $5 million seed funding round supported by a group of outstanding investors. Led by Dune and Chapter One, participating investors include Geometry, Fabric, Starkware, Volt, and others.
Cartridge, Dojo, and Starknet are working together to lay the foundation for a fully on-chain gaming ecosystem. Join us in building the future.
